Sam Peacock

About the artist


Inspired by rural and coastal landscapes, Sam Peacock has challenged the traditional notion  of landscape painting throughout every aspect of his work. Peacock's unique interpretation of the painting process involves the use of non-traditional oil based paints, varnishes, coffee grains and a variety of raw materials, combined and composed on a sheet of steel. Colour, a major aspect of the work, references the land itself with each palette being inspired by a specific physical location.

Experimenting with the balance of colour and light on steel over the last 30 years and exchanging the traditional paintbrush for a roller and a blow torch, Peacock’s unique take on art has propelled his career. Peacock's CV includes independent gallery shows through to extensive interior design projects and large scale art installations for prestigious hotels, as well as a public installation commissioned by Islington council. This commission stands 8 metres tall cladding brick work with steel and colour, letting the light reflect off the surface of the steel and providing an ever-changing landscape.

Other notable works can be seen in the Novotel Canary Wharf where Peacock created his largest work to date, spanning over 62 square meters of wall and using just over half a tonne of steel. This permanent wall covering and installation piece completely immerses you in the rural and man-made landscape projections of Peacock's world.
