About the Artist

Bev Saunders graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1985.

In Bev Saunders' words: “The beautiful area of Lymington in which I now live, has inspired me to develop a portfolio of digital photography.

“My inspiration is primarily derived from my love of sailing, boats and boatyards. My subject matter is eclectic. It depends on where I am and what captures my attention at a particular time. The ephemeral colours, textures, patterns and detailing on boat hulls fascinate me. Created by the random effects of aging, weathering, osmosis and anti-fouling treatments, these ”boatscapes “ frequently go unseen, hidden for most of the time under the sea. A discarded boat prop or painted oil drum may also make an interesting image. I am similarly drawn to the colour, pattern and whimsical qualities of seaside ephemera, from abandoned ice cream kiosks to faded deck chairs. Current sources of ideas and imagery include the typographic elements found in boatyards, on vernacular seaside buildings and in parks and churchyards; and the graphic shapes created by shadows and reflections in the natural environment.”
